The following recovery options are supported for VMware:
- Direct recovery to ESXi 5 with ESXi Standard, Enterprise or Enterprise Plus using vCenter. (Note: VMware 5 is end-of-life.)
- Direct recovery to ESXi 6 with ESXi Standard, Enterprise or Enterprise Plus using vCenter.
- Local file recovery and upload to ESXi5 for VMFS5 and NFS Datastore for vSphere Hypervisor (free licence), and ESXi Standard, Enterprise or Enterprise Plus using vCenter.
- Local file recovery and upload to ESXi6 for VMFS5 and NFS Datastore for vSphere Hypervisor (free licence), and ESXi Standard, Enterprise or Enterprise Plus using vCenter.
Additional information
- Upload to VMFS6 is not supported for VMDK-Thin files. VM files must first be uploaded to VMFS5 or NFS and then vMotioned to VMFS6 storage. (VM-Flat files can be uploaded to VMFS6 and are supported.)
- Full System Recovery to a VMware hypervisor does not work with the vSphere ESXi free edition, where a vCenter Server is not required. You can instead restore locally in VMware VMDK file format, then manually upload to a VMFS5 or NFS datastore.
- FSR to VMware requires a VDDK to be downloaded from our FSR resources blob storage. You will therefore need to either allow a network connection to this storage address or download the VDDK manually. Read more in Article 1306.
