1306 - FSR to VMware error: "Failed to connect to VMware hypervisor"

Modified on Mon, 21 Jul at 12:50 PM

Symptom

A Full System Recovery to VMware fails and the following error presents:

Error: Failed to connect to VMWare hypervisor. System.Net.Http.HttpRequestException: An error occurred while sending the request. ---> System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond 52.239.231.196:443

Cause

This happens because FSR to VMware requires a VDDK (Virtual Disk Development Kit) to be downloaded from the FSR resources blob storage (IP address 52.239.231.196, as in the error message). In this error scenario, a proxy prevents a secure connection to the resource from being established, which means the VDDK cannot be downloaded and FSR cannot be performed.

Solution

The fastest solution is to enable unfiltered network connectivity to the FSR resources blob storage address.

If this is not possible, the alternative is to do the following:

  1. Download the VDDK from the blob storage.
  2. Rename it to add a .zip extension.
  3. Unzip the file in the folder C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Redstor Backup Pro.

FSR to VMware should now be possible.
