1647 - Teams backup scan completes with error “invalid or missing SharePoint site”

Symptom

The scanning task during a Teams backup completes with the following error:

Cause

When a new team is created in Teams, a linked SharePoint site of the same name is also automatically created. We backup both the team and the equivalent SharePoint site. If the SharePoint site is moved, archived or deleted without making changes to the Team the site is associated with, you may encounter this error.

Solution

The following steps may prevent this error:

• Check that the SharePoint site is still present in its original location. If not, return it there.
• Remove the Teams backup set from backup and re-add it.
• Add SharePoint backup to your M365 services to ensure the SharePoint data is protected independently.  
• If the problem persists, you can log a support ticket.
