Note: From v18.6, you can choose whether the ESE Agent should Warn and Retain or Ignore and Remove offline databases.
- Warn and Retain: When the ESE Agent encounters a database in the backup selection that is offline it will display a warning message in the backup logs and keep the database in the backup selection. This is the default behaviour.
- Ignore and Remove: When the ESE Agent encounters a database in the backup selection that is offline it won’t produce a warning in the log file and will remove the database from the backup selection.
How to configure this behaviour in the Agent:
- Right-click on the SQL button on the left.
- Click Offline databases.
- Select one of the options.
Symptom
If a selected SQL database is offline in ESE, the backup fails.
Error message: Backup failed to complete: a required backup component was not found.
Solution
Exclude offline databases in order to ensure that the backup completes.
Excluding specific databases
To exclude databases included explicitly:
1. Right-click the folder icon of the included database.
2. Click Include again.
Excluding databases within an instance
To exclude all databases of an instance:
1. Right-click the folder icon of the included database.
2. Click Exclude.
Note: Deleted databases will continue to be shown as offline. To clear these from the selection, deselect the database instance, press F5 to refresh, and then re-select the instance. The deleted databases will be removed from the available databases after refreshing.
