1060 - System Volume Information and Windows deduplication

Modified on Mon, 21 Jul at 12:48 PM

Symptom

The backup selection suddenly increases when System Volume Information is included in the backup selection and Windows Server deduplication is enabled.

Log messages may show something along the following lines within System Volume Information:

INFO : 22:20:14 Added E:\System Volume Information\Dedup\ChunkStore\
{E04DF199-4797-406A-93B8-BDCD14D11B62}.ddp\Data\00000309.00000000.01.cd (115.77 KB to 115.77 KB)
INFO : 22:35:37 Added E:\System Volume Information\Dedup\ChunkStore\
{E04DF199-4797-406A-93B8-BDCD14D11B62}.ddp\Data\0000030a.00000001.ccc (1,023.99 MB to 897.53 MB)

Cause

Windows deduplication uses the System Volume Information path for storing data chunks. If the SVI folder is selected, these can cause data to be selected twice - once as the "full files" and once as the data chunks that may comprise them.

Solution

Deselect the System Volume Information folder.
