1353 - How to resolve incorrect drive letters after a Full System Recovery to Hyper-V

Modified on Tue, 5 Aug at 1:20 PM

In some scenarios, the drive letters are reversed for one or more volumes after performing a physical to virtual (Hyper-V) Full System Recovery.

The problem is more noticeable in cases where shared folders are no longer shared, and permissions for those shares are lost due to the missing or incorrect drive letter/s.

To resolve this:

  1. Perform your recovery to the virtual machine as per Article 1283.
  2. Once the recovery is complete, manually correct the drive letter paths.
  3. Reboot the restored virtual machine.
  4. Ensure the server hosting shares can reach the domain controller (if these are accessed by domain users).
  5. Check that shares and associated permissions are restored.
